Model answer (5 marks)

Each organism is given a two‑part name.
1. The first part is the genus (generic name).
2. The second part is the species (specific name).
3. The name is written in Latin (or Greek) to provide a universal, non‑localised language.
4. Using the same binomial name internationally allows scientists worldwide to communicate clearly, avoiding confusion caused by different common names in different languages or countries.

Examiner tips

  • Use the exact wording: two‑part name, genus, species, Latin/Greek.
  • Show the sequence of points in order.
  • Mention the benefit of international consistency.
  • Avoid extra explanation beyond the five points.
