# Explain how scientists use the binomial naming system to classify organisms, and why it is important that this system is used internationally.

## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. Each organism is given a two-part name
2. The first part of the name is the genus (generic name)
3. The second part of the name is the species (specific name)
4. The system is written in Latin (or Greek)
5. Using the same name internationally means scientists across the world can communicate clearly / avoids confusion caused by different common names in different languages / countries
