Examiner tips
- Use the exact wording from the mark scheme – e.g. "photosynthesis cannot occur" and "cannot make new cell components".
- Show the logical sequence: darkness → no photosynthesis → no glucose → no energy → no growth → death.
- Keep each point short and to the point, matching the four marks.
Common mistakes
- Writing that the plant dies because it runs out of water or oxygen instead of glucose.
- Using vague phrases like "lack of light" without linking to photosynthesis.
- Including unnecessary details such as chlorophyll structure or photosystem reactions.
