## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. In darkness, photosynthesis cannot occur
2. Photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide and water to produce glucose
3. Without glucose the plant has no source of energy for life processes
4. Without glucose the plant cannot make new cell components / cannot grow
