Model answer (5 marks)
Amplitude is the maximum displacement of the wave from its equilibrium position. A larger amplitude means the particles of the medium are displaced further, so the wave carries more energy.
Frequency is the number of waves passing a given point per second. A higher frequency means more wave crests (or troughs) arrive each second, so the wave transfers more energy.
Because the wave speed is constant, an increase in frequency reduces the wavelength, which also contributes to the greater energy carried by the wave.
