Monomers are small molecules that join together to form a polymer.
The process is called addition polymerisation.
Ethene monomers contain a carbon–carbon double bond which opens during the reaction, allowing the monomers to link and form a long chain.
One everyday use of poly(ethene) is plastic bags.
