Copper(II) oxide is a base. Dilute sulfuric acid has the formula H₂SO₄. The blue solution formed contains copper(II) sulfate.

The reaction is a neutralisation reaction.

An acid reacts with a base to form a salt and water.

Copper(II) oxide acts as the base, accepting the acid.

The salt produced is copper(II) sulfate.

  • Use the term "neutralisation reaction" first. Show the acid–base interaction. Mention copper(II) oxide as the base. State the salt name correctly.

Common mistakes
