Muscles contract rapidly and repeatedly (shivering), producing heat through increased metabolic activity.

- Use the exact terms 'vasoconstriction' and 'shivering'; link each to heat loss or heat production. Show the cause–effect chain: cold → vasoconstriction/shivering → reduced loss/increased gain → core temperature maintained.
