## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. Transition metals have higher melting points than Group 1 metals
2. Transition metals are harder / stronger than Group 1 metals
3. Transition metals are much less reactive than Group 1 metals
4. Group 1 metals react vigorously with water (and air), making them unsafe / unsuitable for structural use
5. Transition metals have higher densities / are better able to withstand forces, making them suitable for load-bearing structures
