# Explain why leaves are well adapted for photosynthesis to occur efficiently.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Leaves have a large surface area
2. to absorb more light / maximise light absorption for photosynthesis
3. Leaves contain chlorophyll (in chloroplasts) which absorbs light energy
4. Leaves have stomata / pores that allow carbon dioxide to enter (and oxygen to leave)
