# Explain why a habitat with a large number of different species is considered to have high biodiversity.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Biodiversity refers to the variety/range of different species in an area/habitat
2. A greater number of different species means there is greater variety
3. High biodiversity means the ecosystem/habitat is more stable / less vulnerable to change
4. If one species is lost / becomes extinct, other species can fulfil similar roles / food web is less affected
