# Explain the roles of FSH and LH in spermatogenesis in the human male.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. FSH stimulates Sertoli cells (in the seminiferous tubules)
2. Sertoli cells nourish / support developing sperm cells (spermatocytes / spermatids) and promote their maturation
3. LH stimulates Leydig cells (interstitial cells) to secrete testosterone
4. Testosterone (acting locally on Sertoli cells / seminiferous tubules) stimulates / is required for the completion of spermatogenesis / the meiotic divisions of spermatocytes
