# Explain the difference between a permanent magnet and an induced magnet, and describe what happens to an induced magnet when it is removed from a magnetic field.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. A permanent magnet produces its own magnetic field at all times / is always magnetic
2. An induced magnet only becomes magnetic when placed in / near a magnetic field
3. When removed from the magnetic field, an induced magnet loses most / all of its magnetism
4. An induced magnet is always attracted to the magnet that causes its magnetism / the pole of an induced magnet nearest the inducing magnet is always opposite
