# Explain the advantages of asexual reproduction over sexual reproduction for an organism living in a stable, unchanging environment.

> Some organisms, such as certain species of aphid and sea anemone, can reproduce both sexually and asexually depending on environmental conditions. In stable, resource-rich environments, asexual reproduction is often the dominant strategy observed.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Asexual reproduction does not require a mate / partner, so energy is not spent finding or attracting one
2. All offspring are genetically identical to the parent (clones), so well-adapted genotypes are preserved / passed on intact
3. Every individual in a population can reproduce (there are no non-reproductive males), so the rate of population growth is greater
4. Resources / energy are not used to produce gametes or for processes such as meiosis and fertilisation, so more energy is available for growth and offspring production
