# Explain how the structures of a mitochondrion and a ribosome are related to their functions in a eukaryotic cell.

> AQA A-Level Biology (7402) — 3.2.1 Cell Structure · Explain · 5 marks

## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. Mitochondria are the site of (aerobic) respiration
2. Mitochondria release energy (in the form of ATP) for the cell
3. Cells with a high energy demand have many mitochondria (linking structure — quantity — to function)
4. Ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis
5. Cells that produce large amounts of protein have many ribosomes
