# Explain how increasing the temperature of a reaction mixture increases the rate of reaction.

## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. Increasing temperature increases the kinetic energy of particles
2. Particles collide more frequently / there are more collisions per unit time
3. A greater proportion of particles have energy greater than or equal to the activation energy
4. Therefore more collisions are successful / result in a reaction
5. Both the increased collision frequency AND the greater proportion exceeding activation energy contribute to a higher rate of reaction
