# Explain how a nerve impulse is transmitted from a motor neurone to an effector.

> The nervous system allows the body to respond rapidly to stimuli. Motor neurones carry impulses from the central nervous system to effectors such as muscles.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. The nerve impulse travels along the axon of the motor neurone
2. The myelin sheath insulates the axon and increases the speed of the nerve impulse
3. Neurotransmitters are released at the junction between the motor neurone and the effector
4. Neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the effector, triggering a response
