# Describe what happens to the chromosomes during mitosis so that two identical daughter cells are produced.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. The chromosomes are copied / duplicated before mitosis begins
2. The chromosomes line up along the middle / equator of the cell
3. Copies of chromosomes are pulled to opposite ends / poles of the cell
4. Each daughter cell receives the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell / each daughter cell is genetically identical to the parent cell
