# Describe the structure of an atom in terms of the particles it contains, including where those particles are found and their relative charges.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. The nucleus is at the centre of the atom and contains protons and neutrons
2. Electrons are found in shells / energy levels surrounding the nucleus
3. Protons have a relative charge of +1
4. Electrons have a relative charge of −1 AND neutrons have no charge / are neutral
