# Describe the structure of a sperm cell and explain how its features are adapted for its function.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. The sperm cell has a head containing a haploid nucleus
2. The head contains an acrosome that releases enzymes to penetrate the egg cell
3. The midpiece contains many mitochondria to provide energy (ATP) for movement
4. The flagellum (tail) propels the sperm cell to move towards the egg cell
