# Describe the roles of rod cells and cone cells in vision, including where each type of cell is found in the retina.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Rod cells are sensitive to low light intensities / used for night vision
2. Rod cells are used for monochromatic vision (not colour vision)
3. Cone cells are sensitive to bright light and are responsible for colour vision / detect different colours
4. Cone cells are concentrated at the fovea; rod cells are distributed at the periphery of the retina / absent from the fovea
