# Describe the role of hormones in the menstrual cycle. In your answer, refer to FSH, LH and oestrogen.

## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. FSH is released by the pituitary gland
2. FSH causes maturation of an egg (in the ovary)
3. Oestrogen is produced by the ovaries / regulates the female reproductive system
4. LH is released by the pituitary gland and stimulates the release of an egg (ovulation)
5. Hormones travel in the blood(stream) to target organs
