# Describe the role of each of the following nutrients in the human body: carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Carbohydrates are used as a source of energy (for respiration)
2. Proteins are used for growth and repair (of cells/tissues)
3. Lipids (fats/oils) are used as an energy store / provide insulation
4. Lipids are also used to make cell membranes (accept: used to make hormones / used to protect organs)
