# Describe the magnetic field around a bar magnet. In your answer, refer to the direction of the field lines, how the spacing of the field lines changes, and the region where the magnetic field is strongest.

> Eduqas A-Level Physics — 4.4 Magnetic fields · Describe · 5 marks

## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. Magnetic field lines go from north pole to south pole (outside the magnet)
2. Field lines never cross each other
3. Field lines are closest together (most densely packed) near the poles
4. Field lines spread further apart as distance from the magnet increases
5. The magnetic field is strongest at the poles / where the field lines are most closely spaced
