# Describe the journey of urea from its site of production to its removal from the body in urine.

> Urea is a waste product that must be removed from the body. It is produced when excess amino acids are broken down.

## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. Urea is produced in the liver
2. Urea passes into the bloodstream / is transported in the blood to the kidneys
3. Urea is filtered out of the blood in the kidneys
4. Urea passes into the urine / is dissolved in water to form urine
5. Urine passes from the kidneys through the ureter to the bladder and is excreted via the urethra
