# Describe how the binomial system is used to name living organisms, and state one advantage of using this system.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Each organism is given two names / a two-part name
2. The first name is the genus (generic name) and the second is the species (specific name)
3. Names are written in Latin (or Greek)
4. One advantage: the system is understood / used by scientists worldwide (universal / international), so there is no confusion caused by different common names
