# Describe how magnetic field lines are used to represent the magnetic field around a bar magnet. Include reference to what the lines show about the strength and direction of the field.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Field lines point from north pole to south pole (outside the magnet)
2. The direction of a field line shows the direction of the force that would act on a north pole placed at that point
3. Where field lines are closer together the field is stronger
4. The field strength decreases with distance from the magnet (field lines become more spread out further away)
