## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Gibberellins initiate / trigger seed germination
2. Gibberellins are used commercially, e.g. in brewing / malting barley / to produce seedless fruit / to increase fruit size
3. Ethene controls the ripening of fruits
4. Ethene is used commercially to ripen fruit during / after transport, e.g. bananas are picked unripe and ripened using ethene gas
