1. Contraception is any method used to prevent pregnancy
2. Named hormonal method (e.g. contraceptive pill / injection / implant)
3. Correct explanation of how the hormonal method prevents pregnancy (e.g. hormones prevent the release of an egg / suppress ovulation / prevent egg maturation by inhibiting FSH and/or LH)
4. Named barrier or non-hormonal method (e.g. condom / diaphragm / copper IUD / abstinence)
5. Correct explanation of how the barrier/non-hormonal method prevents pregnancy (e.g. a condom forms a physical barrier that prevents sperm reaching the egg / prevents fertilisation)
