# Describe four differences between a prokaryotic cell and a eukaryotic cell.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. A prokaryotic cell does not contain a nucleus / eukaryotic cell contains a nucleus
2. Prokaryotic cells contain plasmids (loops of DNA in the cytoplasm) / eukaryotic cells do not contain plasmids
3. Prokaryotic cells are smaller than eukaryotic cells
4. Prokaryotic cells do not contain membrane-bound organelles (e.g. mitochondria / chloroplasts) / eukaryotic cells contain membrane-bound organelles
