> Ash dieback is caused by the fungal pathogen Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. It has spread widely across the UK, causing significant damage to ash tree populations and woodland ecosystems.

## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. Ash dieback is spread by airborne (spores/pathogen)
2. Ash dieback is spread by the movement of diseased ash plants / infected logs
3. Ash dieback can be spread on people or animals (moving through infected areas)
4. Do not move infected plants / burn infected trees to prevent spread
5. Wash animals, vehicles and boots when leaving an infected area to prevent carrying the pathogen to new areas
