# Aerobic respiration takes place in cells to release energy from glucose. Describe aerobic respiration, including where in the cell it occurs and the uses of the energy released.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Aerobic respiration requires oxygen / occurs in the presence of oxygen
2. Glucose is broken down to produce carbon dioxide and water
3. Aerobic respiration occurs in the mitochondria
4. Energy released is used for any ONE named process: muscle contraction / protein synthesis / active transport / cell division / growth / nerve impulses / maintaining body temperature
