# A tumble dryer transfers electrical energy to kinetic energy and thermal energy. Explain why a tumble dryer with a higher power rating will transfer more energy than one with a lower power rating when both are used for the same amount of time.

> AQA GCSE Physics (8463) — 4.2.4 Energy transfers in everyday appliances · Explain · 4 marks

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Power rating shows the energy transferred per second (by the appliance)
2. A higher power rating means more energy is transferred every second
3. Energy transferred equals power multiplied by time (E = Pt)
4. So for the same time, the appliance with the higher power rating transfers more total energy
