# A student places a piece of iron into silver nitrate solution and observes that silver metal forms on the surface of the iron. State and explain these observations in terms of the reactivity series.

> Cambridge International IGCSE Chemistry (0620) — 9.4 Reactivity series · Explain · 4 marks

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Iron is more reactive than silver
2. Iron displaces silver from silver nitrate solution
3. Iron loses electrons / is oxidised and goes into solution as iron ions
4. Silver ions gain electrons / are reduced and form silver metal
