# A filament lamp is connected to a battery in a simple circuit. Explain why the resistance of the filament lamp increases as the current through it increases.

## Mark scheme (5 marks)

1. As current increases, electrons (charge) gain more energy / move faster
2. Electrons collide with atoms (ions) in the filament
3. Energy is transferred to the atoms, causing them to vibrate more
4. Greater atomic vibration makes it more difficult for electrons to flow through the filament
5. Therefore resistance increases (as temperature increases)
