# A diploid cell in a human testis undergoes meiosis. Explain why the four daughter cells produced at the end of meiosis are genetically different from each other.

## Mark scheme (4 marks)

1. Meiosis involves two divisions (not one)
2. Chromosomes/alleles are shuffled / randomly assorted between cells during the divisions
3. Each daughter cell receives a haploid number of chromosomes / half the number of chromosomes compared to the original diploid cell
4. Genetic variation arises because mutations can occur / alleles are mixed into new combinations so no two daughter cells have identical genetic material
